Bodygear Activewear Uses Pioneer Plasma Panels To Convey A Sleek, Sophisticated Image

FT. LAUDERDALE, Florida (March 27, 2000) – As with many competitive industries, fashion retailers around the globe are constantly looking for new ways to get their clothing lines noticed, generate traffic and increase sales.  With the recent explosion of digital signage in visual merchandising, clothing and apparel retailers are turning to Pioneer plasma display technology to fulfill their visual merchandising and inventory control needs.

One company that is taking technology in fashion merchandising to a whole new level is Bodygear Activewear, an upscale clothier located in Florida’s ritzy Las Olas Boulevard area.  Known for its racy image and highly fashionable collections, Bodygear needed a display system that would support the store’s eclectic feel and appeal to its upscale audience without taking away valuable floor space.  Addressing the challenge of boosting sales by increasing store traffic, Bodygear placed two Pioneer industrial 40-inch plasma display panels, model PDP-V402, in the storefront window to show video footage of sleek models sporting Bodygear’s latest fashions.

Pioneer Plasma Panels Find New Uses At Bodygear

“Initially, we wanted to add a high technology display tool sophisticated and bold enough to convey the store’s sexy image,” said Bodygear CEO and internationally acclaimed designer, Christiun Urquijo.  “We found that the sleek design of the Pioneer plasmas matches perfectly with our contemporary décor.”

With a simple plug and play connection, a third 50-inch plasma display panel, model PDP-502MX, was added to Bodygear’s computer system behind the sales counter in the back of the store.  Here, employees can access inventory information quickly via the company’s Web site with just a click of the mouse.  By using the power and speed of the Internet, employees can track down items in specific sizes and colors in the store’s warehouse if it’s out of stock at the Florida store.  If the customer wants the item shipped directly to their home, the employee can fill in the customer information and place the order over the Internet.  The large, easy-to-read plasma screen allows customers, as well as employees, to view the information, as it’s being accessed, with just a quick glance.

“With their lightweight and thin designs, plasma displays are ideal for retail facilities and other applications where creativity and space are at a premium,” said Craig McManis, director of marketing of Pioneer’s Industrial Display Division.  “Bodygear Activewear is on the cutting edge of their industry, and plasma has offered them a new way to communicate with the customer and improve the overall shopping experience.”

Attracted to the slim design, precise image quality and true colors of Pioneer’s plasma panels, Urquijo had at last found the large, flat panel displays he’d always envisioned in the store.

“Traditional monitors would never have worked for us because they are too big and boxy,” Urquijo said.  “We needed a state-of-the-art flat television that would not take up any of our showroom floor and a tool to promote our store’s clean, uncluttered and classy look.”

In addition to using the plasma displays to play video footage and manage the company’s inventory, the catwalk is about to become high tech for Bodygear.  The company is planning to broadcast a live annual fashion show event in New York onto the Internet, which will be shown live at a cocktail party in Bodygear’s store.
